Sunflowers update

I ended up with a fairly busy week last week so not much progress although I did get that bottom right leaf done.
I've moved on to the 2 leaves at the top now and then there's just the right hand bloom to finish off

Jo asked where I planned on using my bag for the first time and unless an opportunity comes up before then it's going to be the WI christmas lunch in December

Happy Dance ~ the bag is finished

I attached the strap a little while ago and then danced round the living with Millie who wasn't very impressed but that prob has something to do with my waking her up from her nap and bouncing round the room :)
Close up of the strap, that's a vintage Swarovski on the end and yes there's one the other end as well. Unfortunately they were out of the budget for the entire strap but they do look good as an accent

and lastly the fringe, that for me was the most boring bit

I'm sorry the pics are'nt that good but it's very overcast today and I at least managed to take pics during a break in the rain.
Now a couple of facts about it, it's taken me approx 2 months to complete and it's my first project in square stitch. There are 17,672 delica beads in it (yes I worked it out but the amounts needed for the sides are already listed) and it weights 115g/4oz.

I have my next big project planned and I start getting the beads for it on Wednesday until then I'm going to either work on a WIP or start one of the many kits I have.

TUSAL

It's July 22 and a new moon so that means it's Totally Useless Stitch Along day and time to share my orts

Lots more black nymo from the bag and plenty of yellow from the sunflowers

The sides are done

I'm so happy I finished the second side this morning and have already made a start on stitching them together
And a close up of those expensive but worth every penny gold beads although it still doesn't show just how pretty they are

The strap is a mix of spiral staircase and beads, I've done the first section of SS but until I go to my LBS tomorrow I can't get any further (I've yet to pick the beads for the srap)

Sunflowers update

I'm quite pleased with the amount I got done last week which is around twice the amount from the week before. I've reached that point where I really don't want to see this anymore and would love a fairy to come along and finish it over night for me so I can go back to my own WIP's

Italian Quilting

At least that's what I'm told this is! Last night was WI craft club and this is what we did, it's alot like trapunto although I have a sneeky feeling it the same thing just done a little differently.
I did a trapunto piece years ago just to try it (wonder where it's gone) and the principle is the same although with this you thread a really thick thread inbetween the lines formed by the backstitch outline instead of making a slit in the back fabric and stuffing it.
The fabric is much paler than the pic shows and please don't look closely at my freehand stitching, it's something I'm useless at!

We have the full pattern that this pat came from but I really can't see me doing it, I was bored by the time I'd got halfway on this one.

Oh and a quick update on the beading, side 2 is about 3/4 done and I'm thinking it's going to be done this weekend, early next week I'll have the 2 sides stitched together and the fringe on ready to start the strap once I've been to the LBS and picked what I'm going to use

Cheshire Steam Fair

This last weekend was the Cheshire Steam Fair and as it was the last full day we went, this is just a sample of the pics I took.
Caleb had his first ride on a Carousel (yes it's the Ashley Gallopers that I love so much)

He also got his first ride on a train

At the end of a steam fair/traction engine rally it's traditonal for all the engines to toot their horns, the noise although very loud is wonderful as is the smell of steam in the air
Mel got herself a new friend who so far is nameless, any suggestions?

Friday (pic heavy)

Yesterday started with my packing up the last UFORR to send home.
From this
To this

And because I'd spent all week working on the RR I forgot to take a pic of the Sunflowers on Monday morning so here they are a few days late.

When we went out yesterday morning to the food shop my girls bought me some Sunflowers

Yesterday afternoon was lovely out so Caleb had a play in his paddling pool for a little while and Auntie Mel helped to soak the back yard (and herself)

We're off to a Steam Fair soon, we would of been gone already but Caleb woke me up at 5.30 this morning and went back to bed at 8.30 and he's still there

UFO RR

For some strange reason I never posted the last round of the UFO RR and I'm about to send the last one home so here's Celtic Christmas as she arrived back in April/May
And as she left me a few weeks later

I'll have pics of the last one tomorrow after I've put a few more hours in on it today ready to mail it home tomorrow

Mar Busby update

This week I finished off the yellow motif did a couple of letters and made a start on the blue one and with that one I've worked across the entire width of it.

Lastly the new stash from Woolfest last weekend, the two in the middle at the top are the doughnuts I wound from the first 2 skeins of sock yarn, I also bought a pair of scissors but I can't remember where I've put them!
The thing with the fish on is a knitting project bag from Nicsknots and I can see me getting a few more of them in the future

I've been RAKed

At the Cheshire Show last week a fellow member of my institute was demonstrating making 'washing line' baskets (not the correct name but I can't remember what it is and that's what they have been nicknamed) and mentioned that she was thinking of selling some of them so I told her that if she did decide to that I was putting my name on one in particular early on because I loved it so much.
Last night while I was doing the register at WI I had said basket appear under my nose along with Happy Birthday!!!

The bottom

and one part of the side

This is same thing that Mum went to Denman for a couple of months ago so I have a basic idea of how they are made and will get round to trying one someday myself.
This one is made up of scraps from other baskets/bags and projects (this member is very creative and does some workshops for the WI) an dit's the randomness of it that I love.
So the general idea is to take a washing line (has to be the right sort but I'm not sure what type it is) and then you wrap strips of fabric around it before stitching it together.
