It's going to be a quilt

Way back in the mists of time Rachael decided to start a Friendship hexie quilt and ever since then it's been lurking at the back of my mind to start a quilt.
A couple of weeks ago I did just that only I'm using diamonds for mine.

I first learnt to do Patchwork at the tender age of 11 when my Mum gave me a kit she'd had lurking about for ages to do because I was bored in the summer holidays and for the next 8 years or so that was my hobby.  Then I discovered cross stitch and that was it I was hooked on that instead and still am although these days I do other things as you know.

I'm using the traditional method of English Paper piecing which means tacking the fabric to paper then stitching them together and removing the paper.

My first star

And my second.
To make it work with stars you need a 'border' around each one and I went for white so that it makes no difference how bright the the fabric is but it's not a flat white, it has tiny scissors and pins on it (I'll try and get a decent pic of it)

I also like Rachael's idea of making it a friendship quilt so if anyone out there is struck with a sudden urge to part with a piece of fabric big enough to make 6 diamonds that are 5" long and 3" wide then please don't fight it :)

You don't choose the easy option do you Lindsay - I taught myself patchwork when my son was very young and enjoyed it at the time. It's very rewarding. This will look good.

I love hand sewn quilting with paper inserts, but not done any in years, I really should not start another hobby.

Pretty fabrics you've chosen so far. I've only done of day of patchwork and that was using the machine.

Oh after reading your latest post I thought I would see where you started it, to find you had mentioned me.. I am honoured, I am plodding on mine occasionally. I will send you some fabric, if you are going to the meet up I will bring it there
