Some finishing (mostly)

First of all last weekend's progress on MW.

Yesterday I finally got around to unpacking the little sewing machine DBF gave me for Christmas and use it.  I've had the fabrics picked out for weeks but every time I've thought I'll do those tomorrow something happened or I just plain forgot I was going to do them and it was to late in the day when I remembered!

I'm posting them in the order they were stitched not the order I finished them and as ever the fabric behind is the one I used for the finishing.

First up is Christmas Peace from JCS ornie issue 2002 (didn't note the designer and I'm far to lazy to go and dig the issue out to look it up) stitched way back in January!
I used a scrap of fabric out of the box that I suspect is Cashel and the called Weeks & GAST apart from subbing Cyress for Cadet.

Next is Heartfelt Harvey from 2008 JCS ornie issue, designed by Imaginating INC.
He's on a scrap of 32 count and I used DMC 304.
He turned out larger than I thought he would so I made him into a little pillow so could get away with a large pattern fabric.  See the sleigh, santa and snowman on the left? Well that's what's on the back.

Next is Happy Day freebie from sub rosa and was the April challenge on Needlecraft Haven

Lastly is the fob from LHN Needle and Thread.
Again I thought it was a little to big for a fob so I made it into a little ornie that I can hang on my stand with other bits and pieces of craft.

When I done and ready to put the machine away I found this

I really should of known that an empty box would soon be filled with a Rosie!

Some finishing

I had an unexpected day at home last week so I took advantage of it to get a few things finished finished that have been hanging round for a while and I've not really had time to do.

First is Chocolate Covered Cherries, this was an exchange project over on Needlecraft Haven over the summer and although I finished the stitching almost on time and did most of the finishing it took me until last week to put the ribbon on hangs head in shame
It's a freebie from  Casey Buonaugurio and the backing fabric is in the background

Then I mounted my Christmas Carousel Horse in the card it came with, now I just need to remember to get a frame for it

Then I framed my Sunflower finish from earlier in the year.

And lastly I stuffed and closed this pincushion, I finished the stitching on it years ago and it spent the next couple of years in the bottom of Mum's work box waiting for her to stitch it together on her machine because when I finished it I wasn't friends with mine!

And lastly I want to Thank all of you that took the time to comment or email me about Toby.

July's ornament

I went with Lizzie Kate's Cozy Christmas Wishes freebie last month for my ornament on a scrap from my stash and it's backed with the fabric it's lying on

Arbour Exchange sent

I was drawn to send to Edgar for the Arbour Day exchange and boy was I nervous about that! But as soon as I saw I had him I knew right away what I wanted to stitch and how I wanted to finish it and so my first ever mattress pin cushion finish came to life.
I'd alreay looked around for freebie's I could use and this one spoke volumes to me, it's Quaker Tree from The Workbasket and I used WDW Cypress on a piece of 32 count I found in my stash that was the perfect size.
For a first attempt I'm really pleased with how it turned out and will do more in the future.

I wanted to do something on the back so went with our initals and a couple of charms, one is hand shaped and says hand made the other is a little smiling sun that has stitched with love on the back

I have to say a big Thank You to Edgar for allowing me to use his pics because as you know I was an idiot with the camera card and can't use mine

Mother's Day

As you'll already know today is Mother's Day here in the UK and I've had a nice day. I've got some stitching in, made a Q snap cover, done a bit of knitting, messed about making pom pom's and made up a Pin Keep.

You might remember me finishing the Crocus' last month (Sharon have you stitched them yet?), at the time Mum said she'd be happy to give them a home (very good at dropping hints like that my Mum, normally with a sledgehammer) so this little thought started to run my head that they would make a nice pin keep for Mother's Day. The daft thing is Mum helped me pick out the backing fabric at the quilting shop not long after I finished them and I said then that she may get them today as a gift. Mum promtly forgot I said that so she had a nice surprise today when I handed it over.

The backing fabric is a little lighter IRL but today's been a very cloudy day.

Mel gave me some stash and a crystal to hang in the window (pic tomorrow if I remember) and I'll find out what Heather has for me on Wednesday when I go and get her & Caleb

At last the finished card

Yesterday morning I finally got round to putting the card together for my Parents Ruby Wedding Anniversay

It's turned out quite well but you really can't see how much it glitters with all the mettalic thread in it because it was so dull yesterday. I meant to give it to them last night when we went out for a meal with my brother (he was over here for a quick visit, first time I've seen him since Oct 07 when we said goodbye to my Gran) but me being the forgetful person that I am left it on the table so I'll give it Mum in the morning before we leave for Darts practice

A finishing finish

Back in September last year I posted about trying out 40 ct for the first time after a friend gave me a piece of her's at the weekend GTG
Today I finally got fed up of seeing it sat there along with everything needed to make it so I've sat and done it.

Considering how bad my finishing skills are I'm really pleased with how it's turned out
